A master's thesis at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Basra, examined "the aesthetic dimensions of employing living elements in contemporary sculpture".
The thesis presented by the researcher (Salma duir Hillel) aims to reveal the aesthetic dimensions of employing living elements in contemporary global sculpture.
The mission included the use of living elements as an artistic medium that contributes to the reworking of the concepts of Form, Beauty and time within the sculptural work.
The thesis concluded, that the employment of living elements contributes to the expansion of the concept of sculptural matter from inanimate matter to biomaterial capable of growth, transformation and interaction, which led to the emergence of new aesthetic dimensions in contemporary sculpture .
